Bob’s Bait and Tackle

Bob from Bob’s Bait and Tackle let me know the docks on the inside by Amityville have been getting some striper play in the last week. Tanner Park up the block from the store has been producing fish to about 30 inches. Sand and bloodworms are both getting good looks from stripers but Bob did suggest fishing a small popping plug in the early mornings for good topwater success.

Bob Rose at Bob's Bait and Tackle in Amity Harbor reported the best news is striped bass as they are basically all over Great South Bay. The best bet to score has been worms, clams and soft plastics. On the blackfish front the bite is best in the ocean… but even that is tough as seas have not been that great. Flounder reports have not come in, but I’ll bet if you tried, and Bob can set you up, you could find a few buried in the mud of the channels.

Bob from Bob’s Bait and Tackle let me know nothing on the open beach yet but the back areas are loaded with schoolie stripers everywhere including the pier at Tanner Park, any of the docks in Amityville and all of the local creeks. Worms have been the number one choice for the bait fishermen while small popping plugs from Yo-Zuri and soft plastics in the 4-inch range have been the best bets for those looking to use artificials.

Bob Rose at Bob's Bait and Tackle in Amity Harbor reported bass are all over the bay with anglers scoring well using soft plastics, hard baits, worms and clams by boat and off the docks and piers. There are some blackfish at the deeper water wrecks, but you need a day of weather to be able to get there! The shop is fully loaded for stripers, blackfish and flounder, with all the rigs you need for fluke when the season opens the 4th of May.
